Brighton’s Big Screen Launch Featuring Gilles Peterson

Saturday 29th July

BBC 6 Music DJ, professional crate digger and world renowned selector Gilles Peterson will be taking Brighton Beach by storm on the 29th July!

He’ll be accompanied by his MC, Earl Zinger, and a combination of Brighton-based legends – bringing you the best in soul, jazz and funk infused music.

We have a number of exciting live acts and DJs lined up throughout the day. Musicologist, Russ Dewbery, will be bringing you the finest in Jazzbop. Heroes of acid jazz, Freak Power (originally founded by bassist Norman Cook AKA Fatboy Slim) have reformed especially for this event. DJ Collective Soul City Worldwide will be spinning the best in funk, soul and disco. The Juke of York, who recently supported Fatboy Slim at the O2, is here to bring you the soulful summer vibes.

BBC 3 radio presenter and Jazz vocalist Clare Martin (OBE), 7 time winner at the British Jazz awards will be performing with her live band. Up-and-coming vocalist Tori Allen Martin, who recently featured on BBC live lounge, and the Starr Trust Singers will kick off the proceedings.

The British Street Food Awards 2017

Sunday 30th July

On the Sunday of our opening weekend, the 30th of July, we are excited to say that we will be hosting one of the 5 regional heats of the British Street Food Awards on site! We will have 15 of the best street food vendors from London and the South East battling it out on site for your vote. The winners of this heat will go through to the final, culiminating in a live, national cook-off, judged by the general public and Michelin-starred chefs. The British winners will then head off to Berlin to represent their country in the inaugural European Street Food Awards, in Berlin. So there’s a lot at stake.

Brighton’s Big Screen will be screening 4 food themed films over the course of the day to get your mouth watering. The ticketing is divided into two separate sessions, an afternoon session and an evening session. A ticket for either session would get you access to all of the incredible food vendors as well as two film screenings.

The afternoon session: 12:00 – 17:30
12:30 – Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
14:30 – Ratatouille

The evening session: 17:30 – 23:00
17:30 – Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

The Quadrophenia Experience

Saturday 26th August

We very excited to announce that we are hosting a screening of Quadrophenia on Brighton Beach! This is the quintessential Brighton film about the famous rivalry in the 1960s between Mods and Rockers, which culminated in a series of battles in Brighton on the August Bank Holiday weekend. This screening will be followed by a Q & A with some stars from the film; Gary Shail, Trevor Laird and the film’s leading actor Phil Daniels, who has never attended a public screening of the film before.

After which we have booked Who’s Next, who are widely regarded to be the best The Who tribute band. They have an accompanying video show which projects famous footage of 1960s bands, as well as classic images of mods and rockers. The video show and the film will be all be shown on our 40 square metre LED screen on Brighton Beach. DJ Drew Stanstall, ex member of The Specials, will also play a DJ set, spinning the best in mod, ska, soul, R&B and 2Tone.

17:00 – film screening followed by Q&A with the stars
20:00 – Who’s Next, Drew Stanstall and 1960s Video show

There are VIP tickets available in a special beach garden setting with a chance to mix with the stars and enjoy quality, hospitality. The package includes a premium seat in the covered, all weather, grandstand. It also features a hot meal, welcome drink from the bar (exc sparkling wine) popcorn, tea or coffee and an ice cream dessert.
